Alaska Drug Problems
In Alaska, 7,469 people (15.88%) of the state population died as a result of drug and alcohol abuse between 2008 and 2017. This figure is over 3% higher than the national average of 12.71%. Fairbanks had the lowest rate of substance-related deaths at 14.28%, while Juneau had the highest rate of substance-related deaths at 18.64%. Anchorage fell right in the middle at 16.32%.
